[A*UG] Polycom and DHCP

Hi Jim

We had some pretty interesting DHCP problems with our Polycom 501
phones.

We traced down the problem to which machine is running the DHCP
server and resolved the problem by activating the DHCP server on the
AAH box.

Everything worked when we first connected the phones and they
received their addresses from a Linksys WRT54G. On the same network
we also have a Netgear router. At one point in our trials and errors
we (inadvertently) had both the netgear router and the Linksys run
DHCP servers. That of course caused some problems. We disabled the
DHCP on the Linksys and the next time we rebooted the phones, they
did not work. It seems that Polycom phones do not speak to all DHCP
servers. We also tried running a DHCP server on a Windows machine
and the Polycom phones still could not receive it. Ultimately, we
activated the DHCP server on the AAH box. That has worked fine. I
was trying to find the web page that I used, but cannot seem to put
my finger on it. If you need our config file for a model, let me know.

Regards,

Pehr
